  • Porto: Cálem Cellar Tour, Fado Show & Wine Tasting

    1. Porto: Cálem Cellar Tour, Fado Show & Wine Tasting

Fado is an important part of the collective Portuguese soul, born in the taverns of the 19th century and an iconic symbol of the Portuguese culture. This 75-minute program includes a visit to the Cálem wine cellars to learn about ancestral traditions. The visit is followed by a tasting of two port Wines (white and special reserve), which are served to you while you enjoy a Fado performance. The Fado performance features both male and female voices accompanied by traditional Portuguese guitar and classic guitar. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear to the music and experience the soul of the country.

A really great early evening experience. The tour of the lodge was informative and most interesting. This was followed by an excellent 50 minutes of fado music with two musicians and two singers. Whilst we listened to the music we drank two port wines, a white and a tawney. I can recommend this wholeheartedly.

Departing from the convenient meeting point in Douro Marina, you'll have a pure sailing experience on a race boat while you can watch the magnificent views over Porto and Gaia river areas. Experience the unique feeling of using only the wind to move the boat and the adrenaline of moving on the water.   You can trim the sails, drive the boat, and take care of the functions on board or you can just relax and let the skipper do everything. Depending on the wind conditions, you can have a more extreme experience or you can ask the skipper to slow down and take things more smoothly.

Great skipper with lot of experience in sailing. His instructions while sailing were very clear. As a complete beginner, it was great to experience the whole process of getting the sails up - down and basic sailing maneuver like jibing. We first went towards porto old town and then into the ocean. The wind was 35 knots and the ocean had big waves but the skipper was really great in his maneuver and judgement.

Most remote cave from Vila Nova de Gaia, but worth it !!! Located in the heights of Gaia, if you take the time to have a drink or a bite to eat before / after the visit, you can enjoy a superb view of all of Porto! Apart from that, the cellar is really neat and the guided tour even more! The guide was great and took the time to explain all the technicalities of Port production to us! (Thank you for the free glass of white port;)) Top tasting! I recommend!!!!
