Doi Suthep National Park: Beginner Downhill Bike Ride

6. Doi Suthep National Park: Beginner Downhill Bike Ride

This tour offers the most scenic and popular downhill mountain bike ride in Chiang Mai. Your day kicks off with transfer from your hotel at 9:30 AM and a comprehensive safety and bike fit-out briefing. After a 45-minute drive to the top of Doi Pui Mountain, you’ll take a short test ride to get comfortable with the equipment.   Finally ready, you’ll head off towards Hill Top Coffee Plantation along a small jeep track. If you’re a beginner, your guide will help you with your downhill riding techniques. Follow the track covered by spectacularly large tree canopies to enjoy the cooler temperatures before arriving at the first resting point. Take a break and maybe try a cup of local coffee as you soak in the mountain air and views! Home to the friendly Hmong Hill Tribe People, you will witness the rural living and farming in Northern Thailand’s mountains.   The second route you will take requires your full attention, as the wild growth of the forest hugs the track. For advanced riders, there are single tracks paralleling the moderately challenging jeep route to get their technical single-track fix (advanced riders know what I'm talking about!). There will be plenty of fantastic viewpoints for rest stops and lightly mixed terrain to challenge you as your ride continues down towards Lake Huay Tueng Tao at the base of the mountain. Arriving at the lake, you’ll enjoy a dip if you like, a well-deserved meal and amazing views of the mountain that just gave you an awesome 3+ hour mountain bike descent adventure. Then it’s time to head back to Chiang Mai, the lazy way: by truck, which will have you back around 3:30 PM.

Definitely this was the highlight of our tour to Chiang Mai. Early morning one was definitely worth it as the temple wasn't that crowded and we got to hear the Monks chanting in the morning as well. Clouds were not favorable to us due to rain the previous night. So we didn't get to see the sunrise that clearly. Wat Pha Lat is one of the best experiences I've had in a temple with the morning mist, monks cleaning the place and a small waterfall to meditate, it was a surreal experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Non, our tour guide was such a friendly and nice person. I would definitely recommend the morning tour for this one!

Being over 60 and not super fit I was worried that it would be too much for me. But I had a great ride down the mountain. However, one person did not have the fitness level or the required skills and balance to ride the bike down the sometimes steep and slippery section. They had to be picked up by 4WD. I would suggest, consider you limits, but be willing to push them. Do this trip and be rewarded with a great ride down the mountain.

Tour was great. Non was my guide and he was simply AMAZING, So friendly and knowledgeable he made it worth the extra expense of a private tour, as I was able to learn so much & had everything in my own time wouldn’t have wanted to experience any other way. He also took me to an extra stop (which should be on the itinerary as there was plenty of time). He said it was his favourite and it also became my favourite temple of the trip.

Yee Yee was an amazing guide. She was super enthusiastic and energetic and she made sure we all had plenty of photos. She also explained everything and helped us get involved with the traditions at the temple. The view from Doi Suthep was great.

Anna was great! She is knowledgeable, caring and sensitive to each of our needs. My family fully enjoyed this private tour and all the photos that she had helped us to take! Thumps up to Anna! :D
