  • From Stone Town: Spice Tour of Zanzibar

    2. From Stone Town: Spice Tour of Zanzibar

On this 2.5-hour guided tour, immerse yourself in the heady world of the spices of Zanzibar. This tour will clarify for you why Zanzibar is called “spice island”: on this small plantation you’ll see where spices grow, among them cloves, nutmeg, vanilla, Zanzibar’s cardomoms, cinnamon, curry, menthol, pepper, tamarind, and ginger. You’ll also see tropical fruits such as papayas, mangoes, and jackfruit.   You’ll also learn the origins of spice plants and herbs, as well as some uses they are put to. For example, the neem tree leaves were used locally as a traditional cure for malaria and indigestion, while the iodine tree is still used to fight infections in wounds. The tour ends with a visit to the spice shop on the farm, where you can buy fresh spices to use in your cooking at home.

  • Stone Town: Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park Half-Day Tour

    3. Stone Town: Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park Half-Day Tour

The 19-square-mile Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park in Tanzania is located on the island of Zanzibar and is the only national park in Zanzibar. Begin your visit with a walk through the natural forest, where the smaller trees and bushes create several sub-canopies under the highest canopy. Walk along the nature trail through the forest, which is an habitat for many animal species including the red colobus monkey, the spotting of which is a top priority for many visitors to the park. The natural forest and the nature walk are just a couple highlights of your day spent in the national park; explore the site with your guide, walk the boardwalk through the mangroves, and discover a turtle rehabilitation center.

Zanzibar Monkey Safari Tour. Most of all I liked the site with mangroves. We saw several blue monkeys, red ones were found at the very end of the path. The guide is attentive, tried very hard to find the monkeys. Unfortunately they all slept in a tree, but they are said to be very friendly when they see tourists.

Super team and French speaking guide! We discovered many plants and trees and tasted fruit! The young guide makes us guess from the aromas and taught us words in Swahili. This is very fun. Beautiful decor !!! To do! Pleasant! As everywhere, plan to tip.

The German speaking guide is super nice and trustworthy. We first looked at the old prison, then fed the turtles and finally snorkeled. The boat trip to the island is also an experience. Everything went about 3 hours in total. Highly recommended!:)

This was a great first tour to take from Zanzibar City! Highly recommend it to first-timers.
